Syria and Sri Lanka Evening “Double” standard – bullying MIA is bullying Tamils! – Jay Tharan

London evening Standard , a London based news paper , is one of the
media who kept mostly silent about the genocide of Tamils during 2009
which many would have noticed. The paper usually bring highlight of
the world issues to Londoners , has once again shown its wrong message
when it wrote an article about MIA , who performed in the Super Bowl
Show on Page 13 while weeps about killings in Syria on other pages.

The free circulated paper  usually reaches thousands of Londoners in
the city , has been successfully brought the killing in Libya with
highlighted news and now it is bringing the news from Syria. It also
highlights many world issues including Middle East up rise while since
it has given a wrong picture of Sri Lankan genocide.

MIA is a Tamil , who fled the war and honest artist who could not keep
silent when 40,000 Tamils were bombed and massacred. Many world
leaders and organisations also voiced for Tamils during this massive
massacre during 2009 and it is not a surprise that MIA talked against
state terrorism of Sri Lanka. Now Evening Standard describes MIA and
be accused of supporting terrorism on single page while she only
raised the voice against Sri Lankan regime who upstaged the genocide
with the help from China and Russia. It same happening in Syria and
will Evening Standard says same if somebody raises voice against
Syria?

As a most read paper in London, Evening Standard has failed to bring
in the news from Tamil homeland during the Genocide while it has shown
huge interest in the Middle East up rise and killing of Gaddafi. The
news which showed what happened in Libya and Syria has created huge
awareness in the minds of Londoners thus many did not even worry when
Gadaffi was dead. It should be appreciated that Evening Standard did a
good job in brining such news. It is surprising when the paper
highlights the news of Syria with 5000 casualties while it kept mostly
silent when 40,000 Tamils were killed.

Even though world nations ignored the case, due to no economical or
political benefits for countries in Sri Lanka, a true media , Evening
Standard should have followed ethical journalism on Sri Lankan war
crimes . The paper should bring the truth of Tamil genocide and
support the people when they raise their voice. M.I.A ‘s good job was
welcomed by world wide Human right bodies and Tamils which will
normally be praised by a good journalist. Since Tamils do not have a
government or huge funds to do a media campaign they rely on their
artists to bring awareness to world.

The act of Evening Standard should be condemned for such double
standard by suppressing Sri Lankan genocide while talking about Syria.
If Evening Standard believes that talking about Sri Lankan genocide is
supporting terrorism, will it be pointing its figure on British MPs
and ministers for saying same?  Bullying an artists since she is from
ethnic minority in London is not acceptable and such a

All Tamils and Human Right activist need to unite and show their
support to M.I.A and condemn the wrong impression Evening Standard
tries to bring into the minds of Londoners. Anybody can follow Evening
standard on twitter @standardnews or on  facebook/eveningstandard or
